Community service requirement: Pro

Could Chanute High school have community service as a requirement to graduate? I think it would be good for Chanute High school to have community service as a requirement to graduate because it will give our students a chance for new opportunities and maybe make new acquaintances along the way.

This is a time to introduce yourself into society. Even though the school year is coming to an end and some students are thinking it’s the end of the world because you can’t depend on parents anymore, but it’s not. Where this life ends a new one begins.

We can still make some pretty awesome memories together even as mature adults.

Community service is what we need. Just think of how far you could get and what you could accomplish by trying community service.

Some great examples could be using community service as a reference for “work experience” on a job application or scholarships, as well as being recognized for the deed you’ve done. One day you’ll be happy with yourself because you’ll say “I did this.”

Almost anyone can graduate from high school no matter how selfish or selfless they are, but it would be much more beneficial to serve others during this time. Maybe you had honors role and straight A’s all year long, maybe you paid for a person’s meal.

Again, I ask, “Why have community service as a requirement to graduate?” Because there are a thousand maybes in the world, but you only need one to graduate and to be a better person. Be a good citizen and help our community, do something for someone even if you don’t know them. You won’t regret it.
